School Improvement Plan
Mission Statement:
We will provide a standards-based educational program, which creates lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
Target Goals:
- All students will increase in reading communicating understanding in all curricular areas.
We define communicating effectively as the ability to gather, organize, and compose information into a write or oral format.
- All students will increase in higher level thinking skills.
We define higher level thinking skills as the ability to compare and contrast, interpret information and explain thinking.
Interventions:
- Classroom Intervention- Goal 1
Teachers will instruct students using a variety of strategies, including rubrics, to improve skills required to gather, organize, and compose information in written and oral format. Each quarter students will give an oral presentation using a rubric to guide instructional practices to improve communication skills. Through the use of oral presentations and rubrics students will develop communication skills by gathering information, presenting the information in an organized fashion, and begin to develop public speaking skills.
Classroom Intervention – Goal 2
For the development of higher level thinking skills in all curricular areas, students will compare and contrast, interpret information and explain thinking using rubrics. The use of rubrics will allow teachers and students to assess academic growth that leads to high student achievement.
- Communication Intervention
Parents and the community will be informed of our SIP plan, goals and intervention through the use of many types of media. Each teacher will present on overview Power Point Presentation during Open House to all parents. We will have ongoing paperless newsletters, blurbs in our base newspaper, brochures and screensavers on all school computers that display the goals and essence. For each quarterly assessment, parents will receive copies of the assignments and rubrics so they are kept abreast of student projects and expectations.
- SHC Partnership Intervention
SHC Partnership will include sending home assignments and rubrics to parents, inviting guest speakers to model good communication skills that students will evaluate using their grade level’s rubric.
- Technology Intervention
Technology will be included as students research information, organize the facts sequentially and prepare the oral presentation.
